Happy Fabulous Birthday to Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, known lovingly as The Trocks. They premiered their first all-male en pointe show on September 9, 1974. Ballet has never recovered - and thank goodness for that! Go look them up on YouTube - they are hilarious.
Also Born Today: Visionary producer Arthur Freed (1894-1973) made it possible for MGM to make superior quality musicals. He hired the best from Broadway and Hollywood and gave them unheard-of creative freedom. Marion Rice (1904-1995), was a Denishawn dancer and the mother of dancer Carolyn Brown (1927-).
