Michelle Dorrance
Tap dancer Michelle Dorrance (1979-) grew up dancing with her mom M'Liss Gary Dorrance, former ballerina and owner of the Ballet School of Chapel Hill and was mentored by tap master Gene Medler, who introduced her to all of the living tap masters, including Cholly Atkins (1913-2003) and Gregory Hines (1946-2003). Dorrance performed with STOMP and Savion Glover (1973-) before founding Dorrance Dance in 2010.
Also Born Today: French singer/dancer and actor Maurice Chevalier (1888-1972) was a musical comedy star at the Folies Bergère before transitioning to film in the 1930s.
