Chinna Satyam
Revered Indian dancer, Chinna Satyam (1929-2012) systematized Kuchipudi technique and in 1963 founded the Kuchipudi Art Academy in Madras to preserve and teach the classical Indian dance technique.
Also Born Today: Ballet dancer David Lichine (1910-1972), danced with the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo from 1932-1941. He choreographed for a few Broadway shows and worked on Hollywood musicals, notably as a dance model for characters in Fantasia (1940), and he choreographed for Cyd Charisse (1922-2008) in The Unfinished Dance (1947). In 1953, he and his wife, ballerina Tatiana Riabouchinska (1917-2000), opened a ballet school in Los Angeles, where he taught for the rest of his life.
