Wayne Lamb

After his service in WWII, Broadway dancer/choreographer Wayne Lamb (1920-2001) studied dance in New York City with ballet choreographer Antony Tudor (1908-1987), modern dance choreographer Martha Graham (1894-1991), and Caribbean dance choreographer Katherine Dunham (1909-2006), among others. Lamb performed on Broadway in Yours is My Heart and Make Mine Manhattan (both 1946) and was a regular dance performer on TV variety shows including The Ed Sullivan Show and The Bob Hope Show in the 1950s. Lamb directed summer stock shows during his time off and began teaching in colleges, eventually ending up at Purdue University from 1960-1986, retiring as a dance professor emeritus after teaching Broadway jazz, tap, ballroom dance and ballet.

Also Born Today: Ballerina Sandra Conley (1943-) danced with the Royal Ballet and created the lead role in Valley of Shadows (1983) by choreographer Kenneth MacMillan (1929-1992). Ice dancer Corinne Paliard (1970-) and her partner Didier Courtois (1967-), were the 1988 French National Champions and placed 14th at the Olympics that same year.
