Luke Cresswell
Self-taught percussionist and street performer Luke Cresswell (1963-), along with co-creator Steve McNicholas (1955-) created STOMP in 1991, performing off-and-on with the dance percussion group over the years. They directed the 1997 HBO special, STOMP Out Loud, an excellent representation of their work making movement and music with everyday objects. Cresswell and McNicholas continue to collaborate on various projects, including directing commercials and documentaries, founding the Lost and Found Orchestra in 2006, and purchasing the Old Market Theatre in their hometown of Brighton & Hove.
Also Born Today: Ballet dancer Edward Villella (1936-) danced with the New York City Ballet from 1960-1979. He founded and ran the Miami City Ballet from 1985-2012.
