Savion Glover
Tap prodigy Savion Glover (1973-) appeared on Broadway at the age of 11 And danced in four of the most consequential showcases of tap dance talent including Black and Blue (1989). He starred in Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk (1996), which he also choreographed, and appeared in the film Tap (1989) and Spike Lee’s prescient Bamboozled (2000), but he is probably best known for his contribution to the tap dancing penguin movies, Happy Feet (2006 & 2011).
Also Born Today: Movement theorist François Delsarte (1811-1871), who created a system of expressing emotion through bodily poses, influencing the creation of modern dance in the 20th century. Broadway choreographer Rob Ashford (1959-) won a Tony Award for his work in Thoroughly Modern Millie (2002) and he choreographed Frozen (2018).
