Marie Chouinard
Dancer/choreographer Marie Chouinard (1955-) spent the first dozen years of her career as a solo artist, creating over 30 works on herself, including Crystallisation (1978). In 1990, she formed a company, which has performed in festivals and engagements all over the globe, including commissions for site work in museums. Her works, including The Rite of Spring (1993), bODY_rEMIX/gOLDBERG_vARIATIONS (2005), and Hieronymus Bosch: The Garden of Earthly Delights (2016), which was created for the 500 year commemoration of the artist’s death, are boldly provocative and NSFW.
Also Born Today: Ballet dancer Brian Macdonald (1928-2014) went on to direct multiple companies and directed the Banff Summer Dance Program from 1982-2001, training dancers and choreographers including Crystal Pite (1970-).
