Moses Pendleton
Dartmouth College student Moses Pendleton (1949-) co-founded the avant-garde dance group Pilobolus in 1971, along with Alison Becker Chase (1946-), who taught the inspired choreography class, and several other students, including Jonathan Wolken (1949-2010) and Martha Clarke (1944-). Pendleton performed with the group for a decade and then began working on other projects including MOMIX, an offshoot of Pilobolus he co-founded with Chase in 1980. MOMIX has toured regularly for the past 40 years, performing work that Pendleton describes as “...physical, visual theatre…” inspired by the natural world.
Also Born Today: Dancer Igor Belsky (1925-1999) performed with the Kirov Ballet from 1943-1963 and later directed the Vaganova Academy. Ballerina Karen Kain (1951-), who performed with the National Ballet of Canada beginning in the 1970s and began directing the organization in 2005.
