Born Today:
Jack Anderson

Dance writer Jack Anderson (1935-2023) began his career in journalism as a California-based theatre critic in the early 1960s and wrote dance reviews for Ballet Today, an English monthly publication. He moved to New York in 1964 to join the editorial staff for Dance Magazine until 1970 and continued writing for them until 1978, when he joined the New York Times as a dance critic until 2005. Along with his partner, dance writer George Dorris (1930-), Anderson edited the scholarly journal Dance Chronicle from 1977-2007. Besides writing about dance for many years, teaching dance history, and penning seminal books about the history of ballet and modern dance, Mr. Anderson is also a published poet.
