Margie Gillis
Modern dancer and choreographer Margie Gillis (1953-) showed an early capacity for dance and trained with May O’Donnell (1906-2004) before starting her own company in 1981. She frequently created solo works and also collaborated with her brother, Christopher Gillis (1951-1993), who danced and performed with Paul Taylor (1930-2018). She has been a guest artist with Momix, the National Ballet of Canada, and the Bruce Wood Company, and has choreographed for the movie Romance and Cigarettes (2005) and for Cirque du Soleil. A 1996 documentary Margie Gillis: Wild Hearts in Strange Times focused on her life and work.
