Cat Glover
Dancer Cat Glover (1964-) was discovered on Star Search, a TV program hosted by Ed McMahon in the 1980s. She and her partner created a duo called Pat & Cat and she created a move called the Cat Scat - a quick series of upper body contractions with the elbows at shoulder level, which is now a dance move fully incorporated into hip hop and street dance technique. Glover toured with Prince (1958-2016) on his Lovesexy and Sign o’ the Times tours and rapped on the single Alphabet Street. The Cat Scat move can be seen on the single U Got the Look (1987).
Also Born Today: Ballerina Laurel Martyn (1916-2013) was the first Australian to dance with Sadler’s Wells Ballet (later The Royal Ballet), and she danced with the Borovansky Ballet and helped to form the Young Dancers’ Theatre. Brazilian dancer Sheila Mello (1978-) danced with the band É o Tchan!, replacing Carla Perez (1977-).
