Born Today:
Steve Paxton
Dancer Steve Paxton (1939-) developed Contact Improvisation, an amazing movement hybrid. It's dance, it's meditation, it's teamwork and anyone can do it, almost immediately. You can perform it, you can use it to develop choreographic ideas and partnering, and best of all - you can do it forever.
Also Born Today: Dancer and Artistic Director Igor Moiseyev (1906-2007) lived to be almost 100 years old and during that time, he showed the world how amazing Russian folk dance can be when choreographed for the stage. Of course we all LOVE the Russian Dance in the Nutcracker. Now imagine an entire evening of breathtaking jumps, leaps, spins and gloriously colorful costumes. Check out the Moiseyev Dance Company on You Tube - you won't regret it.
