Ulla Poulsen
Ballerina Ulla Poulsen (1905-2001) studied the Bourneville method at the Royal Danish Ballet School and began performing with the company in 1921. She modeled for a series of portraits painted by her friend Gerda Wegener and studied with Tamara Karsavina (1885-1978) and danced in George Balanchine’s Shéhérazade during his time in Copenhagen during the early 1930s. She also performed the title role in The Widow in the Mirror (1934), a more contemporary ballet piece set apart from the Bournonville tradition.
