Andre Van Damme
Belgian ballet dancer Andre Van Damme (1919-1989) performed with the Royal Opera House of Brussels and also served the underground resistance during WWII. Following the war he relocated to the United States and settled in West Virginia. In 1956, he founded the Charleston Ballet, now one of the oldest ballet companies in the United States, and he is the subject of an award-winning biographical documentary.
