Matt Mattox
One of the talented dancers in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954), among other films, Matt Mattox (1921-2013) was mentored by Jack Cole (1911-1974) and Nico Charisse (1906-1970), husband of dancer Cyd Charisse (1922-2008). Mattox later moved to Europe and shared American jazz dance with dancers overseas.
Also Born Today: Dancer Maude Lloyd (1908-2004) is best known as a dance critic, writing under the name ‘Alexander Bland’. Julie Newmar (1933-), dancer from Seven Brides, is best known as Catwoman from the kitschy 1960s Batman TV show. Ballerina Suzanne Farrell (1945-) was one of George Balanchine's (1904-1983) muses and a longtime dancer with NYCB. And today is the birthday of the fabulous singer/dancer, Madonna (1958-).
