Lucinda Dickey
Dancer Lucinda Dickey (1960-), who is best known for her role as Kelly/Special K in the films Breakin’ and Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo (both 1984). She studied dance at Kansas State University and after graduation, moved to Los Angeles. Her first role was in the movie Grease 2 (1982) and she also was a dancer on the TV show Solid Gold, which ran from 1980-1988 and featured choreographed routines to the top music hits of the day, performed in fabulous glitter legwarmers.
Also Born Today: The “Human Boa Constrictor” Earl "Snakehips" Tucker (1906-1937) perfected an eccentric dance featuring flexibility. Tap Dancer Jeni LeGon (1916- 2012) performed in dance films in the 1930s and 1940s, including Stormy Weather (1943) and Hi-De-Ho (1947). Contemporary dancer/choreographer Kyle Abraham (1977-) grew up dancing hip hop and after performing briefly with Bill T. Jones (1952-), Abraham founded his own company blending hip-hop and modern/contemporary dance elements.
