Dawn Davis Loring published her first book, Dance Appreciation (Human Kinetics), co-written with Julie L. Pentz, in January 2021 and created the ancillary materials for Dance Cultures Around the World (2023). She looks forward to the publication of her chapter in Syndemic Motherhood (2024-25), published by Routledge.
She manages the Today in Dance, Dancers Lost, and Dance Month projects, all housed on this website, and has written about dance since 1998. Dawn published articles and reviews in The Boston Globe, The Dancing Times magazine (UK), the Austin Chronicle, the Journal of Dance Education (JODE), and the National Dance Society Journal, and she directed the dance/theatre company, Mosaic Dance Body (MDB), for over 10 years. Her choreography has been described as "goofy, pointed political theatre" by the Boston Globe, and by the Austin American-Statesman as “fresh and clever with a sarcastic wit” and MDB as a company that is “not afraid to take themselves a little less seriously to achieve some big laughs”.
She has taught dance for over 20 years to adults, youth, and children in situations raging from university technique, live and online dance lecture courses, K-12 in-school and studio classes. Dawn teaches Dance Appreciation and World Dance at Austin Community College. As an administrator, she served as the Marketing & Events Officer for the Step into Dance program at the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) in London, held the position of Executive Director for the San Antonio Dance Umbrella, and managed the dance programs for private schools.
