Nellie Campobello

Dancer Nellie Campobello (1900-1986), and her half-sister Gloria Campobello (1917-1968), relocated to Mexico City and performed in the 1930s. In 1937, Nellie was offered the directorship of the National School of Dance and in 1942, the sisters founded the Mexico City Ballet. She is perhaps best known for her novel Cartucho (1931), a chronicle of the Mexican Revolution written from a woman’s perspective.
